Clones and the Human Genome Project Unit 11 Lesson 3

The Human Genome Project Genome means the total number of genes in an organism Human Genome Project identified and mapped the approximately 30,000- 35,000 genes found in the human body.

Clones A clone is a genetically identical copy of an organism. The DNA sequence (ACTG) in each organism is identical. Dolly (the baby in this picture) was a female domestic sheep. She was the first mammal to be cloned from a cell. The cell came from the adult in the picture.

Uses of the Human Genome Project Identifies or predicts genetic disorders in parents and in their children. Gene therapy means placing normal genes into human cells to correct genetic disorders.

Changing the gene that causes a genetic disorder The body can then make the correct protein and then trait. Gene Therapy
