3 1. ABSTRACT With ARM7 as the core, this paper discusses a design of traffic control system. The new architecture and design theory of this system is integrated by lot of hardware modules such as ARM LPC 2148 microcontroller as a control unit to combine with global positioning system and GSM module by the hardware/software co-design, the new traffic control system can be design. The traffic congestion can be caused by large Red light delays in the normal traffic control system. The ARM7 based traffic control system proposes a multiple traffic light control and monitoring system that reduce the possibilities of traffic jams, caused by traffic lights. The system is based on Controller and ARM7.

4 2. OBJECTIVES The main objective of this project is to design and implement an accident identification system using GSM. And to reduce the traffic density.

6 4. METHODOLOGY: For any AVL system to work a mechanism to determine the vehicle location, a communication mechanism and a location display mechanism is required. The proposed model can be broken down into three basic components:  1.A Computer Mapping or Location Display Component.  2.The Location Identification Components and   3.The Communication Component.

7 5. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES: ADVANTAGES:
1. This application is very useful on any kind of vehicle. 2.  This application is easy to install and easy to operate. 3.   Manpower can be saved by implementing auto detecting circuits. 4.  More reliable than manual Operation. DISADVANTAGES 1.Implementation cost is too high and difficult in implementation.

8 6.APPLICATIONS: 1.   The project is used to secure and avoid the road accidents. 2.    It can be used as part for automation of s or Public Transportation. 3.   This system is used to trace the culprit vehicles by police persons.

9 7. CONCLUSION: In this paper we have studied the optimization of traffic light controllers in a City using ARM7 and microcontroller. The ARM7 based traffic control system works on traffic related problems such as traffic jam; unreasonable latency time of stoppage of vehicle, emergency vehicles or forcibly passing, etc. can be solved. The system has several benefits such as simple structure, high reliability, low costs, good real-time, easy installation and maintenance and so on.
