11. Impact on Students Course sections From 2008-09 to 2009-10, course sections decreased 9% (38,261) Section size increased by 9% (all time high) Basic Skills sections – decreased 6.6% Student Services Access to student services (counseling, tutoring, etc.) directly correlates to student success.

12. Recent Cuts Impact on Colleges in Future The budget is expected to be ‘reopened’ as early as December or January More money not expected to come anytime soon

What do you need to know? 2009 Budget Act (Chapter 1, Statutes of 2009) 29. ……It is the intent of the Legislature that community college districts, to the greatest extent possible, shall implement any necessary workload reductions in areas other than basic skills, workforce training, and transfer.

Need to know…… CC turned away 140,000 students last year (133,000 first time students) 2010 Budget Act provides $126 million for 26,000 FTE enrollments “These added resources represent an opportunity for community colleges to expand access to badly needed instruction in basic skills, transfer, and workforce training.” (Scott 10/28/10)
