{ Chapter 2 Project Analysis Questions and conclusion

Question 1: Definition Little Credit – copy the definition Example: A chemical change is a change in which one or more substances combine or break apart to form new substances. Some Credit – reword the definition Example: A chemical change is when a substances joins with another substance, or breaks down into other substances, so that it changes into something different. Full Credit – reword the definition and expand Example: A chemical change is when a substances joins with another substance, or breaks down into other substances, so that it changes into something different. In a chemical change, you end up with something different than what you started with. An indication that a substance has gone through a chemical change is that it cannot go back to the original substance.

Question 2: Examples Some Credit – state an example A n example of chemical change would be when wood burns. Full Credit – state the example, explain with details. How does it fit the definition? A n example of chemical change would be when wood burns. When wood burns, it starts out as wood, and then breaks down into something different: ashes. One way I know this is a chemical change is that once the wood has burned, it cannot be turned back into wood. The ashes are something completely different, and cannot simply be reformed, like it could in a physical change.

Question 3: Explanation The answer to Question 3 should be a significant paragraph. Explain what you have learned. How does energy get transferred in your project. Show that you understand what is happening. Use the vocabulary from Question 1. Roller Coaster – what type of energy do you start with? End with? What type of energy do you have at the top of a hill? Top of a loop? Bottom of a hill? How do you know? Go through your whole roller coaster. From the beginning to the end. In Hot Water: How does the heat energy travel from the water to the air? What are you measuring when you measure temperature? Why do some materials prevent heat from escaping? Be specific and use the vocabulary. Battery: Explain how your battery works – what is causing the power to be generated? What is actually happening that you cannot see? What type of energy is originally stored in your fruit/vegetable.? What is moving to create the energy? What causes this movement?

Conclusion Use the grading rubric and powerpoint to make sure you include all of the parts of the conclusion. Refer to your data. Analyze the data -- What does the data tell you? Be sure to discuss ALL of your data. Major findings -- What did you learn from this experiment about the type of energy and energy transfer you studied?
