3.7 Measuring Length with Uniform Non-Standard Units

Measuring Length with Uniform Non- Standard Units If we wanted to measure Beltre’s bat, but we didn’t have a ruler or tape measure, what are some different ways we could measure the length of his bat?

Measuring Length with Uniform Non- Standard Units Working with your shoulder partner, create a warm out of your play dough or clay. Compare the length of your worm with others at your table. How long is your worm compared to your shoulder partners? Who has the longest worm in your group? Who has the shortest worm in your group? Who made a worm that is long and thin? Who made a worm that is short and wide?

Measuring Length with Uniform Non- Standard Units How could you measure the length of your worm of your worm? Let’s use counting cubes… What would happen if we used ones cubes to measure the length of each worm? Would we need more or less ones cubes than connecting cubes?

Measuring Length with Uniform Non- Standard Units **CHALLENGE** Make a worm between 4 and 6 cubes long! How could we check the length of each worm?
