3. What event is all of Christian faith based on? Who shaped the Church and helped it grow after Jesus ascended? What happened on Pentecost? What is the significance of Pentecost to our Catholic faith? Read Acts of the Apostles 2:38 (p. 1173) and in your own words, summarize what Peter told the people they must do to be saved. Why do you think we no longer refer to the Holy Spirit as the Holy Ghost?

4. Side 1: For nine days, the disciples waited and prayed in Jerusalem as Jesus had told them. Side 2: Mary, his Mother, was with them. Side 1: Suddenly from the sky came a terrific sound, the sound of a strong wind. Side 2: A wonderful wind that roared through the house. Solo 1: And fire appeared, Solo 2: Flaming tongues

5. Solo 3: That parted and darted, finally to rest on each person. All: (with quiet awe) In wind and fire, the Spirit came and filled the followers of Jesus. Side 2: Filled them with faith, filled them with courage, filled them with knowledge, and filled them with zeal. All: (powerfully) They went forth! Side 1: People who gathered from many lands for the Jewish feast of Pentecost... All: (excitedly) understood the disciples’ words!

6. Side 2: Some were spellbound, mystified. Side 1: Skeptics sneered, “Too much wine!” Side 2: To which Peter replied, Solo 1: “It’s only nine o’clock. This is God’s work.” Side 1: Then a new, bold Peter proclaimed: Solo 1: (boldly) “Jesus is risen. The Spirit he promised is poured out on us.” All: And 3,000 believed and were baptized.

Discuss with your partner(s) and think of an example of how the model appears in the Church today. 3. Design a symbol of the model. 4. Prepare a short written report on the model including the example of the model in the Church today, the symbol, the Scripture quotation from the textbook (purple box), another Scripture quote you found on your own, and an explanation of the model. **Each person in the group must record the full report in their notes – you will be teaching the model to the class!
