2 NEXEDGE Branding Beyond the edge of what is possible now….
The wireless business is on the edge of change - unlike anything the we have seen before. At times like this, you can either adjust to the future after it has arrived, or you can anticipate what's next. We chose to anticipate what's next and to look beyond the edge of what possible now with a product line so different that it can only be named - NEXEDGE. Experience the edge of technology Full Trunking Capability Analog to Digital Migration Analog to Digital Migration Copyright © 2005 KENWOOD All rights reserved. 21 Digital Trunked Mode Fast System Access Enhanced Efficiency
Automatic channel selection. No user monitoring is required Enhanced Efficiency Users share a pool of channels per site Experiences less busies during peak hours Up to 30 Site Sites can be configured from two to 30 channel for full trunked efficiency. 22 Digital Trunked Mode Transmission Trunking
A Traffic Channel (TC) is acquired every PTT. The TC is released upon PTT release. Benefit: Frees system resources between PTT exchanges for other users Trade-off: Two-way conversations may be interrupted by temporary system busies. Message Trunking A TC is acquired on the initial PTT and held after PTT release for called units to respond. If no activity is detected during a programmed hold time, the TC is released. Benefit: Uninterrupted two-way conversations. Trade-off: Less system resources are available to other calls. 23 Digital Trunked Mode 3,000 GID’S: Large talk group capacity for fleet dispatch operations. 3,000 UID’S: Large unit ID capacity for private unit-to-unit calling. Call Queuing System can automatically put calls in a queue when all Traffic Channels are busy Calls are processed when a traffic channel becomes available 8 Priority Levels with Pre-emption Processes calls queue in order of priority (UID COS). Pre-emption re-allocates a talk channel for high priority calls (e.g. dispatcher, supervisor, emergencies). 25 Digital Trunked Mode Priority Monitor ID 1 & 2 – Automatically collects subscriber units to a high priority GID call (e.g. dispatcher, supervisor) even if on a low priority GID call. Late Entry- Permits subscriber units to join a call already in progress after powering on or entering system coverage. Broadcast Call- A “one-way call” to a GID talk group for priority alerts and emergencies in which units cannot respond (select target GID, Press BC key, Press PTT, the GID is BC called). Ethernet Switch Copyright © 2005 KENWOOD All rights reserved. May not be copied or reprinted without prior written approval.

26 Digital Trunked Mode Fail Soft Mode* - If trunking capability is disabled, the control channel reverts to conventional operation so basic communications can continue. Control Channel & Traffic Channel Switching If a CC logic unit is disabled the system automatically assigns a TC as a new CC If a TC logic unit is disabled the system automatically removes it from service. Remote GID Add* (PC Serial control) Adds a new GID to subscribers remotely over-the-air Form a workgroup for emergencies, mutual aid, and special events, operations or incidents. A reset operation can delete the GID over-the-air Ethernet Switch *Features available for both single and multi-site releases 2H2008 Copyright © 2005 KENWOOD All rights reserved. 60,000 GID’s & 60,000 Network Large total capacity for shared networks and large fleets. Automatic Roaming Subscriber units automatically search for the best sites while moving throughout a network. Accurate roaming and registration decisions are based on control channel hunt algorithms, RF signal strength (RSSI) and digital signal quality (BER). 32 Multi-Site IP Networks
Individual Call Response On an Individual Call, the system waits for the called party to answer before allocating a Traffic Channel to the call (saves network resources). Busy System Wait On a Group Call, the system waits for free Traffic channels at all target sites to proceed with call (best effort for all units to receive the call).
