4 Bellwork 3/19/14  How do people (classmates, coworkers, parents, or…?) see you? How would they describe you?  How do you see yourself? How do you describe yourself?  Is there a difference between how others see you and how you really are? Explain.  Make this a longer Bellwork! Go for at least half a page, or 10 minutes, whichever comes LAST!

While listening to the audio clip and viewing the movie clip, jot down notes to answer the following questions: 1.What was interesting about Salinger’s family life? 2.List some details about his main character, Holden Caulfield. 3.What about the time period could have impacted Salinger? 4.What connections do you see between Salinger and Holden?

7 Reading assignment for Chap. 1 1. Choose one quote you think is interesting, strange, important, fabulous, freaky, etc. Explain why you chose it. 2. Ask and answer one question from the reading that you can ask the class during discussion. These should be “deeper” questions than just plot summary or character identification. 3. How would you describe Holden’s character? What do you think of him so far? Use at least one quote to support your claims. Feel free to write all over your copy of the chapter. You can complete the assignment on the back of the reading packet. Due at the beginning of class Friday!
