The Urinary System (Excretory System) Aim: How can we describe the functions of the Urinary System?

DO NOW If you could ask a question to any doctor about the urinary system, what would you ask and why? WRITE DOWN YOUR QUESTION! Discuss your questions with your group members. You have 3 MINUTES!!

Functions of the Excretory System Excretory means: the removal of waste from the body. The digestive, urinary, respiratory and skin make up your excretory system. –Digestive= Waste from your intestines (poo) –Urinary= Waste from your kidneys (urine) –Respiratory= Waste gases (CO2) –Skin= Salts eliminated through sweat.

The Urinary System The Kidneys, which filter wastes from the blood, are the major organs of the urinary system. Urine moves from the kidneys through the ureters, into the bladder, then leaves the body through the urethra.

Urinary Diseases and Disorders Kidney failure can lead to a buildup of waste products in the body. An artificial kidney can be used to filter the blood in a process called dialysis.

Important Vocabulary Ureter: Tubes that lead from each kidney to the bladder. Bladder: an elastic muscular organ that holds urine until it leaves the body. Can hold up to 0.5 Liters of urine.
