The Nature of Christ His Humanity

Jesus Christ was a man He was as much God as if He were not man at all and as much man as if He were not God at all. He had a human parent (Matt. 1:18, 2:11, 13:5) Jesus was born of the seed of a woman, Mary. Joseph was not His father. He had human names. Jesus, Son of man, Jesus of Nazareth,

He had human appearance He was Jewish (John 4:9; 20:14-15) He possessed the essential elements of a physical nature – body John 19:38-40, soul Mark 14:34, and spirit John 13:21.

He had human sinless infirmities He had hunger Matt. 4:2 He had thirst John 19:28 He was Fatigued Matt. 8:24 He had weariness John 4:6 He had Agony Luke 22:44 He developed in the usual, normal way of human development Luke 2:40,52

Jesus Christ had human characteristics Humility and Love: He washed His disciples’ feet, (John 13:14-15) He laid down His life for His friends (John15:13) Meekness (Matt. 11:28-30, 2Tim, 2:24-25) Meekness is strength under control Isa. 53:7, Psa. 45:4, Matt. 26:52-53

Jesus Christ performed human activities He prayed Mark 1:35 He worked John 5:17,36; Matt. 13:54-55; Mark 6:3 He Learned: The Bible say that Christ learned obedience. Heb. 5:8; Phil. 2:8 Luke 2:52 indicates that Christ “increased” physically, intellectually, spiritually, and socially

The Deity of Jesus Christ Deity = God Hood He performed divine activities He created: John 1:1-3; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:1-2 He forgave sin: Matt. 9:1-8 He exercised judgment : 2 Tim. 4:1 He was worshiped: Acts 10:25-26 & Rev. 22:8-9 He accepted prayers that were made to Him: John 14:13-14 He Accepted worship as God; John 5:23; Phil.2:9-11 He had a divine conception: Matt. 1:20; John 8:42

He had divine names God Son of God Lord Immanuel He had a divine appearance at will Luke 9:27-36

He has divine characteristics He is eternal John 1:1; Heb. 13:8; Heb. 1:8; Rev. 1:8 He is omnipresent: Matt. 18:20; Matt. 28:20; John 6:21 He is omniscient: Luke 6:8; John 1:48; John 2:24 -25 He is omnipotent: His miracles proved He was God: Acts 2:22, Matt. 8:27;Etc.. 23 of His 35 miracles were miracles of healing He is immutable: Heb. 1:12; Heb. 7:24; HEB. 13:8

Significance of Christ’s Supernatural Life The significance of the virgin birth: 1.It proves the reliability of Scripture. Matt 1:16 2.Fulfillment of a wonderful prophecy Isa. 7:14 3.Beautiful expression of the supernatural Isa. 9:6 4.He acquired a human nature without affecting His sinless deity. John 1:14, Luke 1:35, Heb. 10:5 5.Allowed Him to avoid the curse of Jeconiah. Jeremiah 22:24 – 30 “He was so wicked God put a curse on him”

The significance of Christ’s two natures The incarnation is essential to the scriptural doctrine of the atonement. Christ must have been perfectly human. Christ had to be a sinless man in order to atone for sin. Heb. 4:14-15, I Peter 2:21-24 Christ had to be God: His sacrifice had to be of infinite value. He died for the world. He bore the wrath of God redemptively so as to free mankind The acceptance of the deity of Christ is necessary to salvation. John 8:24 him saying “I am” was Christ clearly indicating His deity.

Romans 10:11-13 King James Version (KJV) 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
