2 Objective By the end of the lesson, SWBAT describe and state why the Framer’s outlined what they did in the Preamble!

3 Lightning Round Review How does the past effect history? How do we connect to history?

4 Where do we live?

5 The United States of Course! How many states are in the United States?

6 50!! Where is the capitol of the United States?

7 Washington D.C.

8 The U.S. Even though there are 50 indiviual states, the Federal law, law made in Washington D.C. still applies to all of the states.

9 The Past Under the Articles of Confederation, the capitol and Federal Government did not have that much power. The states and their laws had most of the power, not the Federal government

10 State Power! Each state kind of worked as a mini-country within the United States Examples of state power: Rhode Island printed their own money Delaware had huge import duties Virginia had its own army

11 Federal Government with No Power! What would the class be like if each table had their own rules? The Federal Government had no power because the States had all of the power!

12 Oh No! Many people were worried that there were so many different laws. A group of people wanted to create a stronger Federal Government to make things easier to figure out

13 Constitution was Born This group, called the Framers of the Constitution, created the Constitution.

14 The Preamble The Framers decided the first lines of the Constitution would explain why the Constitution was created.

15 The Preamble We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union, estabish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote general welfare, secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.

17 Preamble We the People of the United States in order to form a more perfect Union... The citizens of the United States are creating the Constitution to make a better country.

18 The Preamble Establish Justice provide justice and fairness for all people

19 The Preamble Insure domestic traquility To make sure there is peace here in the United States

20 The Preamble To Provide for the Common Defense To make sure the whole country is protected by one military.

21 The Preamble Promote general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity To make sure that person's interests are watched out for, and to make sure that freedom for ourselves and our future family is guarunteed.

22 The Preamble Do Ordain and Establish this Constitution of the United States of American This is why we are creating a new federal law. (this law will have power over the states and protect the states)

23 The Preamble We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
