Objectives: To inform radio listeners about an organization that has worked to protect the environment in Latin America or Spain and justify why their work is worth celebrating. To synthesize and interpret information from authentic sources ROLEAUDIENCEFORMATTOPIC + Strong Verb Journalist from the BBC World News or United Nations Radio (or another group of your choice) Listeners of a popular radio program on the environment (ej. The Environminute) Radio broadcast of two minutes— like a podcast Inform listeners of an organization that has worked to protect the environment in Latin America or Spain and justify why it’s worth celebrating their work.

+ How many of you… take your students to a computer lab? have access to a class set of headsets with microphones and USB cables? record your students’ speech samples electronically/digitally regularly?

+ Ideas for using VOXOPOP Set up talk group for whole class and the entire class can hear each other’s recordings. Set up individual student accounts so that only the recordings of that student are in one place and the teacher can respond to that particular student privately.

+ Ideas for using VOXOPOP Have students listen to speech samples of other students and then record their comments/observations. Have students start the topic of discussion. Record listening comprehension sections for exams. Pronunciation practice Anything else?

+ Step 1 Go to www.voxopop.com

+ Step 2 Click on sign up in order to join or make a talkgroup

+ Step 3 Fill in the information. Then click on “I agree, sign me up!”

+ Step 4 Click on explore

+ Step 5 Start a Talkgroup of your own

+ Step 6 You can start a Talkgroup. Fill out the information:

+ Step 7 Click on Create my talk group

+ Step 8 Invite others to join Or start a new discussion

+ Step 9 Put down the information in order to invite others, and then add the students’ email addresses. You may only send 20 emails at a time. Then send out the invitation

+ Step 10 Write a title for your discussion. Record the starting discussion as a prompt. And you can add message options and key words. Then you can either save or cancel the discussion

+ Step 11 After your recording, you may go back to the talk group to verify that your recording is there. Or you may explore other discussions and talkgroups
