2 What is noise pollution?
Annoying and potentially harmful environmental noise Any unwanted man-made sound that penetrates the environment is noise pollution. In general noise pollution refers to any noise irritating to one's ear which comes from an external source.

Neighbourhood noise e.g. mahjong, karaoke Industrial and commercial noise e.g. factory machines, construction project Traffic noise e.g. vehicles, aircraft Sources of noise

loud or sustained noise can damage hearing (temporary or permanent deafness) mental stress and high blood pressure disturbance of work and schooling activates the nervous system, causes the muscles to tense and the heart rate and respiratory rate to increase

Noise may damage the nervous system of birds. In 15 April,2005, 15 birds in Hubei suddenly fell to the ground. After scientific investigation, it proved that noise damaged their nervous system and they lost the balance. The birds that directly fell on the ground

The government have set up laws to control the generation of noise Build noise barriers along roads and railways Setting time limits for pilling and drilling Installation of double-glazed windows and air-conditioners in schools seriously affected by noise Better land use zoning
