6 The routes are different this year because there was not enough snow. It started in Fairbanks and ended in Nome, Alaska There are approximately 1049 miles There are 19 checkpoints in the race.

7 PenAir Spirit of Alaska Award- Presented to the first musher to reach McGrath. If you are the last musher you get the Red Lantern Award. GCI Dorothy G. Page Halfway Award- presented to the first musher to reach the halfway point.
