“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

 Here’s a joke about what happens when you’re selfish.

Joke about the joy of not being selfish!

 Paul begins a lengthy discourse on the matter of submission and living as servants.  Let’s explore a life of selfless slavery for Christ.

 A mind free from selfish ambition  Romans 2:8 -- But for those who are self- seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.

 A mind free from vain conceit  Galatians 5:24-26 -- Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

 A mind filled with humility  Colossians 3:12-13 -- Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

 A mind set on slavery  Mark 9:35 -- Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

 Eyes which consider my own needs  Ephesians 5:29 -- After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—

 Eyes which equally consider the interests of others  Matthew 20:25-27 -- Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—

 “Selfish song” from Paul Coleman Trio  “Who is gonna sing my selfish song…”  Christians don’t sing selfish songs. They sing a song of slavery. “Lord, make me a servant, Lord make me like You.”
