2 Mark Twain’s real name is Samuel Clemens. He was born in 1835 and died in 1910. He was born in Florida, Missouri. He soon moved to Hannibal, Missouri and spent most of his childhood there. Using one word to describe his home he would call it “drowsing”.

3 Samuel Clemens thought his childhood was “half way between sleeping and awake.” He had lots of fun playing with his friends along the Mississippi River watching the steamboats. He called these his “Tom Sawyer days”.

4 Samuel Clemens liked steamboats a lot. He lived near the Mississippi River and would watch the steamboats go by. Clemens and his friends all looked up to steamboatmen as their heros. When he was about 23, he got a pilot’s license and was very successful. When the Civil War came it shut down the river traffic and was not able to be recovered.

5 He was an apprentice to a printer He then started his first writing job as reporter at the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. It was then that people were discovering his talent of writing. He also started calling himself Mark Twain.

7 Mark Twain lived Europe in 1891-1901 because he was in financial problems. He also went to Turkey, Palestine, Hawaii, Australia, India, and South Africa. Whenever he would go somewhere new, he always enjoyed scenery and imagined himself as a traveler who pretends to understand things he doesn’t.

8 Samuel Clemens got married to Olivia Langdon Clemens when he was 34 years old. Samuel and Olivia had returned from Europe and things were going great, but in between the years 1901-1908 Olivia sadly died.

9 Mark Twain was lonely and his health was getting bad. He moved to Redding, CT. He built a house and named it Stormfield after one of his characters. He died on April 21, 1910.
