3 Training Outwith the Activity O This is where you work on your fitness away from the activity using various methods to work on specific aspects of fitness, e.g.: O Interval Training O Continuous training O Circuit training O Weight training O Fartlek training.

4 Training Outwith the Activity O Concentration on specific aspects of fitness with no distractions of skills, game, equipment O More focus on energy system O Easy to apply and set up training O Easier to apply principles of training O A lot of work can be done in a short space of time with no distractions O After improvements have been made away from the game it will improve quality when applied into the activity O Excellent for building base fitness – pre season O Goal directed – personal training needs O Can be challenging and motivational to suit needs

5 Principles applied to training – Fartlek Session. O Frequency – how often you train (3 x per week) O Duration – how long each session (20 mins starting) O Intensity – moving in and out of aerobic and anaerobic energy systems 70% of max HR – aerobic (140 – 160 bpm) 85% of max HR – anaerobic (180 bpm) O Activity Specific
