As a VeriFone Authorized Service Contractor you will need to know, become familiar with, and understand the system components that are included in the Ruby POS terminal. The system components consist of the external VeriFone equipment which is included in the system. Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Introduction

Objectives In this module you will learn: Ruby POS system components Features for each component Suggested reading Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

The following is a list of the Ruby POS system components: POS Terminal Power Brick Printer Cash Drawer Customer Display PINPad Let’s take a closer look at each component within the Ruby SuperSystem. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

Ruby POS Terminal There are currently two different Ruby Terminal models, the CPU4 and the CPU5. The CPU4 is no longer manufactured, but is supported. The Ruby Terminal POS is the primary system component. When shipped from VeriFone’s manufacturing facility the terminal has only the Operating System installed. As a VeriFone Service Contractor you will install the appropriate network or major oil software into the terminal. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

The part number for the Ruby Terminal is located on the bottom of the terminal. All Ruby terminal part numbers have the same sequence of numbers: xxx-xx-xxx. The model of the Ruby terminal can be determined by reading the part number. The model number is the first digit in the third bank of numbers. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

For example, if the part number is: 040-03-530, the first digit in the third bank of numbers is 5 – the terminal is a CPU5. If the part number is: 040-03-430, the terminal is a CPU4. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

The Controller and each Workstation terminal needed within a Ruby system is actually the same terminal. When downloading the appropriate software you will load the correct files to dictate if the terminal will be a Controller versus a Workstation. Ruby terminals have a one year warranty from the time a purchase. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

Power Brick, Part Number 03641-01 The power brick is the power source for both the terminal and the printer. The power brick should be placed in a well ventilated area. If the fan becomes clogged with dirt or dust use a vacuum to clean out the dust. Canned air should not be used to clean a power supply, most of the dust will be blown into the brick. The Ruby power brick is a non-repairable VeriFone part. Do not send power bricks to the VeriFone repair facility. The warranty for the power brick is one year. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

There are two connections on the Power Brick. AC Power Connection – an AC power cord will be connected to the power brick. The power cord is then connected to the main/primary power source. When power cycling the terminal this is the cable to unplug. DC Connection – this connection carries DC voltage converted by the power supply. The cable for this connection supplies power to the terminal, printer, and in some cases a fuel icon display. Note: The DC connection should never be used to power cycle the Ruby. Ruby POS System Components AC Power Connection DC Power Connection Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

There are two different DC cable connections for the Ruby terminal. “Y” Cable – Part Number 03609-01 The “Y” cable is really two cables in one. The large round end will be connected to the power brick and the other small round end will be connected to the printer. This cable is then connected to the terminal at the 25-pin serial port. The “Y” cable supplies power to both the terminal and the printer. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Connects to Ruby terminal Connects to power brick Connects to printer

“W” Cable – Part Number 04004-01 The “W” cable is three cables in one. The cable has the same two connections as the “Y” cable (large round cable connecting to the power brick and the other cable connecting to the printer), it also has a third cable. This cable is used to connect an additional fuel icon display to the Ruby terminal. The Ruby terminal’s internal fuel icon board displays fueling points 1-18. The additional external fuel icon board displays fueling points 1-32. The “W” cable is only needed at sites which have more than 18 fueling points. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Connects to Ruby terminal Connects to power brick Connects to printer Connects to fuel icon

NOTE: ALWAYS connect the “Y” or “W” cable while the AC cable is disconnected to the power brick. Connecting this cable with the terminal powered up will cause serious damage to the main board in the terminal. The power brick, Y and W cables come with a one year warranty. These parts are not repairable. Should a part fail within the first year of purchase a new part will be replaced by VeriFone. After the warranty has expired the customer will need to purchase a replacement part. Ruby POS System Components AC Power Connection DC Power Connection Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

Cash Drawer, Part Number P050-01-200 As of 2005 VeriFone started manufacturing a new cash drawer that interfaces with the Ruby SuperSystem. This cash drawer will be used for both the Ruby and Topaz POS systems. The cash drawer has a one year warranty and is a repairable part. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

All cash drawers come with two keys and one insertable till. There are three positions on the key. The position to the left is the manual drawer release. If the key is turned towards the left, the drawer will automatically open. If the key is in the straight up position, it can be removed and the drawer will open only when specific sales transactions or other sale-type activities are completed. If the key is turned all the way to the right, it is in the “locked” position. The drawer will not open during a sale transaction or any other type of sale activity. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Key can be removed from lock Turn to left to open drawer Turn to right to lock drawer

When interfacing the new cash drawer with the Ruby SuperSystem you will need a special adaptor. The reason for the adaptor is because the connection from the old to the new cash drawer is a different size. On the left are pictures of the old and new cash drawer connection as well as the adaptor that will be needed for the new cash drawer when connecting to a Ruby. Please be advised: You will not be able to connect the new cash drawer to the Ruby POS without this adaptor. The part number for this adaptor is 12839-01. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Old drawer connection is an RJ11 New drawer connection is an RJ45 Adaptor for new drawer

The cash drawer adapter used to connect the new Cash Drawer to the Ruby POS terminal MUST be installed properly or you will jeopardize the warranty. If the adapter is connected to any port other than a CASH DWR port on the Ruby terminal, the adapter may be damaged. You MUST connect the adapter cable to one of the CASH DWR ports. Connecting the adapter cable to any other port could result in damage to the adapter. If the adapter is damaged due to failure to follow these instructions, the adapter cannot be replaced under the warranty. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

TM950 Printer, Part Number P040-02-006 The TM950 is both a receipt and journal printer, for this reason it is sometimes referred to as a "multi-station" printer. It is supported at Ruby and Ruby/Sapphire locations. The TM950 has a one year warranty and is a repairable part. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Receipt Side Journal Side

This printer will experience a build up of paper dust through normal operation. This dust can reduce the effectiveness of the paper sensor in the unit and over time can lead to printer failure. To avoid this phenomena it is recommended the dust be removed from the unit on a monthly basis. The best approach is to clean the inside using a small vacuum. Paper quality differs greatly by manufacture. VeriFone recommends using only top quality paper in this printer. Printer ribbons should also be changed regularly. The edges of an old ribbon will become tattered and may damage the printer head. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Receipt Side Journal Side

The printer is connected to the Ruby POS terminal by first connecting a special printer adaptor to the back of the printer. The adaptor includes a reset button. Next, one end of an RS232 cable is plugged into the adaptor connected to the printer, and the other end of the cable is plugged into Comport 4 on the Ruby terminal. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components Reset Button

The TM950 printer receives power from the “Y” cable and is connected to the terminal through an RS232 cable, you should NEVER complete a “hot” printer swap. Failure to power down the system prior to connecting the power connection to the printer may cause critical damage to both the Ruby terminal as well as the printer. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

The TM930 printer was discontinued in 1996, and was end of life January, 2005. The easiest way to detect a TM930 printer is to look at the top of the device. This printer has a key and the top has two covers – one for the ribbon and another for the paper. The TM950 printer does not have a key and the cover is one piece. VeriFone no longer supports the TM930 printer. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components TM930 with key/lock TM950 – no key/lock No longer supported by VeriFone

Customer Display, Part Number P040-08-242 The Customer Display is a two-line, 20-character high visibility display, which may be mounted with either a six or twelve inch pole. The Customer Display provides the customer with transaction information. When the terminal is in Sales Mode and no sale transaction is being completed, a programmable message will be shown on the screen of the Customer Display. This message can also be programmed to stay constant or scroll across the screen. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

The customer display has a one year warranty and is a repairable part. The display will be connected to the GemBus port on the back of the Ruby POS terminal. NOTE: Because the Customer Display receives power from the Ruby terminal you should ALWAYS connect the display while the Ruby is powered down. If the Customer Display is connected “hot” it may cause critical damage to both the Ruby terminal as well as the display. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

PINPad One PINPad is included with each Ruby POS terminal. PINPads are application specific, meaning that when a Ruby Terminal is ordered, you will need to specify what Major Oil Company or Network will be used. Each PINPad is then injected with the correct software needed for the specific network parameters prior to shipping to you. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components

PINPads are used for debit transactions as well as inputting specific data for fleet and other types of credit cards. All VeriFone PINPads have a one year warranty from the time of purchase. The default comport for the PINPad is comport 7. The PINPad will obtain power from the terminal. Ruby POS System Components Module 3: Ruby SuperSystem Components
