Experience Sampling Aug 2009, two weeks (26 users) Nokia N95 + user’s own sim card – GPS logging (if not, wifi scanning) At the end of the day, users are asked to upload; answer questionnaire UI Questionnaire

Place Naming Taxonomy Semantic names: Personal names: highly personal meaning to individuals (e.g., home, work) Functional names: how a place is used and can imply what activities are carried out at those spots (e.g., restaurant, gym, church) Business names: registered business name or trademark (e.g., Barnes & Noble, Starbucks) Geographic names: Address: street address to describe the place. Landmark : nearby well-known spot or other public places to refer to the target location (e.g., near Liberty Bridge or next to Central Park)

Automatic classification Given situation (location + to whom the person wants to share it), can we predict which category will be used (when naming)? Features: – Social Relationship – Comfort Level of Sharing – Recipient’s Familiarity of a given place – Place Entropy (uncertainty, if many people visit)
