Creating and Collecting Baselines

When you see a Red circle or a next button, like this, that means we want you to click on something. These are the same steps you’ll take when you’re working with your patients. For now, let’s go ahead and click “Next”. Welcome to ABPathfinder! I’m Abbie, and I’ll be leading you through how to create and collect a baseline today. Next There is just one thing before we get started. Throughout this guide, I’ll ask for your help.

When you are ready to start a baseline, click on the “Therapy” button.

From here, you can click on Baseline. Let’s get started….

A Baseline gives us a view of the patient’s capabilities at a specific point in time. We use it in ABPathfinder to provide a foundation for future therapy. Let’s do a Baseline, now. Click on the “New” button.

First, we’ll give the Baseline a description, here. Remember – select a name that is informative, but also maintains HIPAA compliance. Do not use the patient’s name in the description. Next

The first time you complete a baseline you will choose “baseline” as the type. To complete a second baseline with the same skill group you will choose “re-assessment”. Next, you select the frequency with which you’ll perform these assessments. Last, click on the binoculars (here) to select the domains to be included. Skill groups can be created custom to your organization or to a patient. Skill groups are groups of skills across single or multiple domains and/or protocols.

As you can see, now we have the option to select Domains across multiple Protocols. You can check as many as you like. When you’re done, click “Select”.

Select the developmental level of skills you would like this Baseline to represent. For now, let’s just pick Level 1 skills. This will pull all of the Level 1 skills across the Domains we selected. Now, click “Save”.

As soon as you Master something, you’ll also see a Gold Star appear here as an indicator. You can “Save” the info, but keep the Baseline open. This is helpful if you spread this out over multiple sessions. Or, you can “Complete” the Baseline. This will close and lock the scores. Let’s do that now. Now, let’s enter some scores. The scoring is up to you. Click where it says “Not Observed”. For some protocols, you’ll have a numeric scale. For others, there may be a pull down menu, like this. It just depends on what your company chose. The skill name is listed here, and the description is here. If you have any questions, you can always click the “Information” icon, here, to learn more. Great. Here’s where we get into the assessment. Skills are divided into Protocols and Domains. Just click the tabs (here) to see the skills under a domain.

Great job! Just remember that the Baseline provides the foundation for the skills we want the patient to acquire. You can always review the results in a Report. How often you do a baseline/re-assessment is up to you. You’ve now been through all of the basics of creating and collecting and baseline in the ABPathfinder Therapy Support Software, I encourage you to keep exploring what it can do for you. As you can see, it’s definitely the most flexible and comprehensive tool for therapy professionals; designed to save you time and more importantly help patients gain skills faster.
