2   Cesar Chavez was one of the major leaders of the Chicano movement. He starved himself for 25 days in protest of the Californian grape growers.  Edward R. Roybal was a Mexican-American congressman who ran in 1962. He was a strong supporter of the Chicano Movement and convinced more Mexicans to vote.  Salvador Castro was a teacher in L.A. and became frustrated by the lack of Mexican-American administrators in the school systems and felt that the teachers weren't treating the minority children fairly. 3   The Chicano Movement was a Mexican- American civil rights movement that took place in the 1960s.  The name Chicano came from the name of the Mexican immigrant children.  The movement also involved farmworkers and other low paying labor jobs. Qué
