2 How it is at present….. There is currently an activity programme running from 8am-4pm weekdays for patients to participate in. Psychology referrals have to be sent to the psychology team and await an assessment. We currently do not have any groups for carers, or for awareness and education for anxiety and depression.

3 The Vision….. For therapy to be more readily available at patient friendly times. Improve staff and patients' morale. Greater therapeutic involvement and support, this will lead to an improved working environment. Networking with external agencies - improvement to delayed discharges‘, involving patients and families from admission to discharge, Social Services, care homes etc. Creativity - thinking outside the box. Looking at ways of working in an holistic way rather than the medical model that we are used too. To empower patients and their families.

4 The Perfect Week… What it is… The ‘Perfect Week’ is a national improvement programme that allows staff from all disciplines to work together and test changes that can improve the way patients move through the system, or better understand why there can be delays. How it helped… The perfect week enabled staff to identify where care can be improved which influenced the staffing for the therapeutic ward. Patient

5 What is the Therapeutic Ward… Changing staffing and working times to meet our vision. Increasing Psychology and Occupational Therapy input. Improving the patient and carer experience. Enable the patient and promote recovery.

Faster access to services for patients, family and friends More input available for assessment and treatment Collaborative working with Nursing staff who work in highly emotive and challenging circumstances More Therapeutic and educational Groups for patients, friends and families Supporting psychological way of thinking to enable holistic and person – centred treatment.

9 What this means for carers… More input and care for your loved one. Better quality time with your loved one. Easier access to speak with therapy staff outside of office hours. Quicker discharge. Improved patient and carer experience.
