2 Effects of Irrigation Technology Irrigation refers to technologies people invented to control and manage water Controlling and managing water allowed people to grow more food and live more sanitary lives as the technology advanced These advances allowed human populations to increase greatly

3 Ancient Irrigation Ancient Mesopotamians and Egyptians used a tool called a “shaduf” to pull water up from the rivers and canals It was made of wood and rope and used by farmers and laborers The shaduf allowed them to access more water to grow more food for their city states

4 Ancient Irrigation Ancient people dug canals to bring water from rivers to their farms and as a mode of transportation These canals were dug by hand in ancient times They also allowed people to grow more food which supported larger populations
