2. Exploring the Events of Holy Week In this assignment, students (groups of 3 per event) were asked to describe one of the events of Holy Week and cite evidence from prayer and Scripture that help them understand their chosen event. This presentation explores the trial of Jesus, his innocence, and the meaning for the students today. Each presentation must include narration and images that added to the viewer’s understanding. 4. Matthew 27:11-14, 17-20, 25-26 Jesus, then, was brought before the governor, and the governor put to him this question, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' Jesus replied, 'It is you who say it.' Pilate then said to him, 'Do you not hear how many charges they have made against you?' So when the crowd gathered, Pilate said to them, 'Which do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?' Now as he was seated in the chair of judgment, his wife sent him a message, 'Have nothing to do with that upright man; I have been extremely upset today by a dream that I had about him.' The chief priests and the elders, however, had persuaded the crowd to demand the release of Barabbas and the execution of Jesus. Then he released Barabbas for them. After having Jesus scourged he handed him over to be crucified.

5. Mark 15:1, 12-14 1 First thing in the morning, the chief priests, together with the elders and scribes and the rest of the Sanhedrin, had their plan ready. They had Jesus bound and took him away and handed him over to Pilate. Then Pilate spoke again, 'But in that case, what am I to do with the man you call king of the Jews?' 13 They shouted back, 'Crucify him!' 14 Pilate asked them, 'What harm has he done?' But they shouted all the louder, 'Crucify him!'

Luke 23:1-4, 24-25 1 The whole assembly then rose, and they brought him before Pilate. 2 They began their accusation by saying, 'We found this man inciting our people to revolt, opposing payment of the tribute to Caesar, and claiming to be Christ, a king.' 3 Pilate put to him this question, 'Are you the king of the Jews?' He replied, 'It is you who say it.' 4 Pilate then said to the chief priests and the crowd, 'I find no case against this man.' 24 Pilate then gave his verdict: their demand was to be granted. 25 He released the man they asked for, who had been imprisoned because of rioting and murder, and handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they pleased.

John 19:11-12,14-15, 19-22 Jesus replied, 'You would have no power over me at all if it had not been given you from above; that is why the man who handed me over to you has the greater guilt.' 12 From that moment Pilate was anxious to set him free, but the Jews shouted, 'If you set him free you are no friend of Caesar's; anyone who makes himself king is defying Caesar.' 14 It was the Day of Preparation, about the sixth hour. 'Here is your king,' said Pilate to the Jews. 15 But they shouted, 'Away with him, away with him, crucify him.' Pilate said, 'Shall I crucify your king?' The chief priests answered, 'We have no king except Caesar.' Pilate wrote out a notice and had it fixed to the cross; it ran: 'Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews'. 21 So the Jewish chief priests said to Pilate, 'You should not write "King of the Jews", but that the man said, "I am King of the Jews". ' 22 Pilate answered, 'What I have written, I have written.'
