4. Welcome to first grade! My name is Ms. Conrad and I’m going to be your teacher this year. We are going to have an amazing year together. I’m so excited to meet you and learn with you this year. 1.

5. In first grade, we are going to learn about “Doing it ABE’S WAY!” You might remember this from kindergarten. ABE’S WAY is being responsible, respectful, and safe. 6. We’ll learn how to figure out tricky words and think about what we are reading by using reading strategies. We’ll write many books, some like this. You’ll type your book and narrate it so your voice will be in your book just like mine. 3.

7. Together, we will have fun learning how to add and subtract, count money, tell time, and play lots of fun math games. We will solve really tricky math problems together and even create our own math stories to share with our friends. 4.

8. In science, we will learn about cycles. We’ll learn about the life cycle of insects and frogs, the seasons, plants, states of matter, and the water cycle. We will explore different habitats and discover the plants and animals that live in each habitat. 5.

9. In social studies, we’ll learn about communities, getting along, maps, what schools were like long ago, the difference between needs and wants, and family traditions. 6.

10. In addition to making PowerPoint books like this and sharing them on LiveBinder, we’ll share our learning with others in many ways. We’ll be blogging, using Facebook and Twitter, and creating movies and uploading them to our YouTube channel. 7.

11. I can’t wait to meet you and get our year started. We are going to have so much fun learning from each other and making new friends. 8.
