Polytheism – poly means “many” and theism means “gods” Egyptians believed gods controlled every aspect of life To keep gods happy they built temples for the gods

Many gods were associated with animals Amon-Re was the most important god – The Sun god Osiris – the god of the underworld Isis – the mother god of Egypt Horus- the son of Osiris and Isis

7 How did Egyptians live? Egyptian homes were made of bricks and designed to keep people cool They ate grains, fruits, vegetables, and fish. Meat was only eaten on special occasions They enjoyed music with meals They loved beauty and fashion – both men and women wore make-up and wigs to look more attractive

Life on earth led to an afterlife where they would enjoy everything they loved in life Those who lived good lives would live forever but those who were sinful would be destroyed

To prepare for afterlife, Egyptians preserved bodies after death Poor people were buried in the desert – the hot sand dried bodies out quickly Wealthy people were mummified
