Initial Words From high frequency word assessment Writing from across the curriculum System works on 15 words – 12 known words – 3 unknown words

How does the system work? PractiseChangingSampling

Practise Session Takes about 5 minutes with one child Should be quick and almost impersonal Mistakes are not commented on but are then practised

Changing Session Takes about 5-8 minutes with one child Should be quick and almost impersonal Mistakes are not commented on but are then practised The number of words changed requires a bit of maths!

Changing Session 1 Demonstration with no mistakes! Child chooses which words to reject They reject one more than the last time they changed (to a maximum of 10) Rejected words are recorded in the booklet New words given from the planner

Changing Session 2 Demonstration with mistakes! Child chooses which words to reject They reject the difference between the number they changed last time and the number of mistakes they made this time Rejected words are recorded in the booklet New words given from the planner

Sampling Session Test children on words e.g. 1, 11, 21, 31, 2, 12, 22, 32. Record the date and the last number tested. Put into the pack any words (with a star) the children get wrong
