BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING BY MIA PATLÁN

JOB DESCRIPTION What is Biological Engineering? The job accountabilities of Biological Engineers are particularly diverse. Biomedical Engineers use and apply their knowledge of biology (as well as chemistry, mathematics, computer science and physics) to create and design products that solve real world problems. These types of engineers also create products that are used for human needs, such as medical devices, production of pharmaceuticals, food processing, etc.)

REQUIRED TRAINING/SALARY Biological Engineers should have the basic knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics (High school sciences, and mathematics) including calculus, as well as computer programing and Engineering design. Going into college, a person who is interested in becoming a biological engineer will be required to take Bachelors degree programs that focus on biomedical engineering and biological sciences. These programs are centered around fluid and solid mechanics, computer programming, circuit design, and biomaterials.

JOB OUTLOOK The job outlook for biological engineers is outstanding. In fact, the BLS cites biological engineering as the fastest developing of all the engineering fortes, with a 72% growth rate. 11,600 new biological engineering jobs are expected by 2018

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATONS The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the professional society for biomedical engineering and bioengineering. Founded in early 1968, the Society now boasts nearly 6,500 members and is growing, rapidly. BMES serves as the lead society and professional home for biomedical engineering and bioengineering. Our leadership in accreditation, potential licensure, publications, scientific meetings, global programs, and diversity initiatives, as well as our commitment to ethics, all serve our mission to promote and enhance knowledge and education in biomedical engineering and bioengineering worldwide and its utilization for human health and well-being. http://bmes.org

BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING JOB LISTINGS Kessler Foundation Job requirements (educational) BS or MS degree in biomedical engineering or closely related field Strong computer skills with solid programming experience, particularly Matlab. Background in signal processing or/and image processing (EMG, EEG) and biomedical instrumentation Preferred Skills/ Experience Interests and/or experience in the following areas: neuromuscular rehabilitation; biomedical signal processing (e.g., EEG, TMS and EMG); brain and muscle electrophysiology. Prior research experience with human subjects. http://jobview.monster.com/Biomedical-Engineer-Job-US-157289534.aspx?mescoid=1700164001001&jobPosition=2
