2 How long have you….. Da quanto tempo is used if you want to ask someone how long he/she has been doing something. Ex: Da quanto tempo giochi a calcio? (How long have you been playing soccer?) This question is used when the action you have been doing is not yet over. You still do this today.

3 La Risposta (the answer) Io gioco a calcio da cinque anni. Io gioco a calcio da cinque anni. I have been playing soccer for 5 years. I have been playing soccer for 5 years. Formula = subject, verb, + da (for)+ time (how long you have been doing this action.) In this case, the question is in the tu form and the answer is in the io form.

4 Più esempi Da quanto tempo Maria suona la chitarra? How long has Maria been playing the guitar? Maria suona la chitarra da una settimana. Maria has been playing the guitar for a week. In this case the verb does not change because the subject is the same for question and answer.

The boys and girls have been taking Italian for a year. In this case the verb does not change because the subject does not change. (the boys and girls)

8 Quanto tempo è che Sono quattro anni che studio lo spagnolo. I have been studying Spanish for 4 years. Sono + plural time + che+ present tense

9 Quanto tempo è che È da nove mesi che studio lo spagnolo. I have been studying Spanish for nine months. È da + time (singular or plural) + che + present tense.
