2 Job Duties & Responsibilities Feeds and waters game Maintains and repairs fences, coops, pens, buildings, and equipment Observes game to detect signs of illness Transports game to zoos, filming locations, and release areas Treats and medicates any illness Supervises and coordinates activities of workers Cleans pens, cages, and yard area Plans daily schedule Talks with those visiting the game farm

3 Qualities and Skills Work done may require intense physical labor Must be able to bend, lift, or stoop repeatedly May require walking or standing for long periods of time Able to communicate verbally and in writing

4 Salary The salary of the game animal farmer career will vary from farmer to farmer. It will depend on what you are raising and how often people pay to hunt on the land. An average salary would be any where from $20,000 per year to $45,000 per year.

5 Work Environment Most work is done outdoors or inside an animal housing shelter Environment can be dirty, smelly, and noisy Work may have to be done despite the weather conditions Hours may be irregular due to weekend and overnight business

6 Becoming a Game Animal Farmer In high school take science, math, business, and speech classes. Also, take as many agriculture classes as possible to learn more about nature and animals. Visit a nearby game farm and take advantage of the products it offers. The best preparation for this career is to have been raised on a game farm, so that you know the ins and outs of the effort it demands.
