Thailand By Josh Tiffin, Alex Lynch & Joel Jenkinson

Where is Thailand? Thailand is an independent country that is situated in the heart of south east Asia. It joins a group of exotic countries throughout the area of South East Asia that bask in a unique climate which is only seen in Southern Asia.

How big is Thailand? Thailand is an estimated land and water area of 514 000 sq km. Thailand is roughly the same sq miles as France which makes it larger then California. It’s a rather small country but is called home by 63 million people. This is extraordinary as the ratio between people to land is rather high.

Thailand's Population In 2008 the total population of Thailand was 63 389 730 people. The populations density is 132 people per sq km. Thailand is the only country in south east Asia never to have been colonized. The population is often made up of many different cultures but the most common race found throughout Thailand is Asian.

Thailand's Geographical Features Thailand has many rain forests which is often an appealing sight for land developers and business owners. Thailand is currently in crisis as it’s beautiful rainforests which are home to some of the world’s rarest animals are being destroyed by land developers at such a rate that soon their won’t be anything left. Thailand is also home to many nice beaches and coastal icons. As it’s crowded, these are often filled with tourists and locals which often mean the relaxing beach can become more like a noisy theme park.

Foods Grown In Thailand Thailand’s rural areas are home to vast varieties of farms. These farms grow several different foods, often being rice, corn and essential fruits and vegetables that make up the classical Thai dishes. There are often spices grown on these farms as that is a main feature throughout nearly all the dishes. Although meat and fish is vital in most Thai dishes, these don’t feature nearly as much in all farms within Thailand as it’s mainly fruit and vegetables grown by farmers throughout the rural regions.

Foods Exported Thailand export many of the foods that they grow within their farms. Often they export corn, rice and other essential foods used throughout the world. Thailand isn’t the biggest nation when it comes to exports but they still reap significant fiscal advantages from the foods they export.

Traditional Dishes Traditional dishes throughout Thailand vary on the regions visited. Often curries and noodles feature throughout all regions within Thailand and are world renowned all over the world. Other dishes include many vegetables and spices and is an all round food because it can be eaten by all whether you be vegetarian or vegan.
