2 Project Summary Address technology deficit in civil society to engage, mobilise and activate Customize the platform to our need during 1) GLEN’s multi stakeholder Strategy Process with European young activitist and global partners, 2) with national DARE Forum members Study the ways technology can support and enable systemic change and participatory engagement. Funding DEEEP facilitated a self-selection and self-assessment process Six finalists were selected by pre-selection team The six rated each other based on a number of different factors The final three were funded by DEEEP through a sub-grant Why did we start this project? 6 Current Status Civil society technology usage research survey completed Two of the five revised technology scope efforts have been completed Other three beginning shortly We could not partner on the GLEN Strategy Process as originally intended due to technology readiness issues

7 Lessons Learned General CSO-Powerline Partnerships – Separating technology development contracting from project management contracting Technology Outsourcing – Utilizing fixed bid pricing and schedule guarantees Scope Control – Adopting rigorous evaluation and assessment of scope changes Key DARE Forum Survey Findings / Highlights Most CSOs utilize social media and e-mail lists as primary communications tools – some have in-house websites, but fear creating too much noise Only half used technology for virtual engagement opportunities, organizing action, creating space for discussions, or supporting networking Largest challenge is getting people to participate
