13 08 April 2005 Athens, Greece AD-NP - 13 C.CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES AREA REPORT Information Packaging and Registries (IPR) Working Group Issue 1 - The IA and IPR WG chairmen agree that a Registry / Repository task is urgently needed within CCSDS. They also agree that the task should be under the MOIMS area either as a separate WG or in the IPR WG. The IPR WG has reserved time for a joint IPR/IA session on Registry/Repository during the Athens Workshop to discuss this issue Issue 2 - The SANA BoF chairman agreed to revise the proposed SANA WG charter to focus on Web Interfaces and the collection and presentation of numbering and identification information in existing CCSDS documents to provide a one stop shopping site for this type of information. This should eliminate any conflict with the IPR

14 08 April 2005 Athens, Greece AD-NP - 14 D.OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS A.Issue 1 CMC should respond to the Liaison request from ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC29/WG11 CODING OF MOVING PICTURES AND ASSOCIATED AUDIO INFORMATION(MPEG) included as next slide AREA REPORT INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION FOR STANDARDISATION ORGANISATION INTERNATIONALE DE NORMALISATION ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG11 CODING OF MOVING PICTURES AND ASSOCIATED AUDIO INFORMATION ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC29/WG11/N7009 Hong Kong, January 2005 Source:Convenor Title:Liaison Statement toCCSDS Panel 2 WG11 (MPEG) was made aware by some of its members about your work on the standardization of XML Formatted Data Units (XFDU) aimed at “representing widely applicable XML-based packaging techniques,,covering both wholly XML data as well as XML data with binary data leaves”. WG11 would like to point out that its work on MPEG-21 DID (ISO/IEC 21000-2) might be relevant in the context ofCCSDS’swork on XFDU as both standardization efforts aim at defining an XML-based format that can be used to ‘package’ several assets and their metadata in a single container structure. Within the MPEG-21 framework, such an XML data structure is called a DIDL document. The asset represented by the DIDL document is referred to as a Digital Item. MPEG-21 DID takes care to specify the declaration of Digital Items inmainly two normative sections:  An Abstract Model: A set of abstract terms and concepts that, together, form a well-defined data model for  declaring Digital Items. The Abstract Model allows for Digital Items to be represented in many ways . Currently MPEG-21 DID defines a normative XML representation of Digital Items based on the Model.  A Representation of the Model in XML: The description of an XMLsyntax for each of the entities defined in the Abstract Model. This XML-based syntax is referred to as the Digital Item Declaration Language (DIDL). The first edition of MPEG-21 Part 2 was published as an ISO standard in March 2003. A second edition is currently being finalized and will mainly enhance the functionality of the DIDL. We are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration.
