1. Job Performance Requirement 16-10 Removing Tempered Glass

2. JPR 16-10A A Make certain the vehicle is stabilized. Place duct tape across the window to be broken leaving an excess amount in the middle. The excess will be pressed together and will form handles to remove the glass. Apply several other strips of duct tape to the window in a crisscross or “H” pattern. The tape should be placed on the glass only.

3. JPR 16-10B B A spring-loaded center punch is pressed into the corner of the glass. The firefighter should make certain that the hand not operating the punch is positioned in a manner that will help prevent the operating hand from penetrating into the passenger compartment.

4. JPR 16-10C C Once the glass is broken, it can be removed in one piece by pulling out on the handles formed by the duct tape.
