11. Lesson Plan Overview Language Arts Lesson Plans Week One - Students will focus on listening to Chinese folk tales and distinguishing the main characters, scenes, settings and moral of the story. Students will get to participate in group discussion of the elements of the folk tales. Students will then write an original folk tale using a planning page to help with the beginning elements of the folk tale. Week Two - Students will focus on the elements of expository writing using topic sentence, and three points to create essays. Students will be able to analyze the parts of an essay and create essays discussing the dragon boat races. Week Three – Students will strengthen their vocabulary by learning words associated with origami, the great wall of China and the Silk Road. Students will learn the concept of Origami and create outlines with the steps for creating Chinese origami. Students will write a compare and contrast essay of trading on the silk road and shopping at the mall. Week Four -Students will discuss the differences in the celebration of Chinese New Year and New Year celebrations in the United States. Students will complete a crossword puzzle using words associated with New Years’ celebrations in China and America.
