Ihr Logo HOLD YOURSELF IN! (Temperance)

Your Logo This is the nature of man. Man is generally driven by self even against his wish and expectation. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure

Your Logo rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5). “Hold Yourself In.” This is why we will advise ourselves on this topic “Hold Yourself In.” TEMPERANCE The word temperance is from the Greek word “egkrateia” which means self-control, the ability to hold oneself in, self restraint.

Your Logo (that is gratifying to the boy, indulging oneself with physical pleasures.) According to a writer, J.H. Thayer, “Temperance means the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions especially his sensual appetites (that is gratifying to the boy, indulging oneself with physical pleasures.)” temperance According to Mike Willis, in his commentary on Gal 5:23 [gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law], defines temperance as “the dominion which one has over oneself, dominion that one has over his thoughts, words and actions.”

Your Logo temperance The term temperance has an effect in all aspects of our lives as we learn to control our thoughts, words and actions. As Paul said...“bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5) – This is temperance! Apostle Peter listed eight qualities in sequence that we must have to be fruitful. “ 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be

Your Logo faithvirtueknowledge self-control perseverancegodliness brotherly kindness love partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.” (2 Peter 1:4-7). The first four are primarily internal and the last four are primarily external.

Your Logo The first four speak of how we must be and the last four speak of how we relate. Temperance helps us to subject ourselves to the demands of our faith, our moral excellence gained from Christ and the knowledge we have received of him and walk accordingly, so that we can exhibit patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. The Christian life is impossible without self- control.

Your Logo Self-control makes it possible for us to bring our faith, virtue and knowledge to bear in all our relationships. The Bible emphasized that “Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down, without walls.” (Proverbs 25:28). In ancient times, according to history, living in a city or village without walls was to invite danger. One was never secure from whatever marauder might come. So it is when we lack self-control.

Your Logo Any desire or lust can come along and destroy us lust like raiders could easily dominate and destroy city without walls. It is necessary to find out any negative trait in you that are capable of destroying your personal relationship with God and men. For instance, if you are easily given to anger, then you have to do something about it now, otherwise, it will take you down on a swipe.

Your Logo One of the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22- 23 is “...temperance.” Temperance is self-control. God provided this fruit of the Spirit because we have a self that must be controlled. Failure to control it gives the self the ability to go haywire and do whatever it wants to do. Therefore, we must learn to exercise control. Exercise control on your behaviour and motions of the flesh. “ 11 For the grace of God that brings

Your Logo salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age” (Titus 2:11-12). You are the one God has put in charge to control that self and whenever you can’t control it, the self becomes demonic. Thank you and God bless us in Jesus in Name Amen!
