8 1 in 10 of the people that you see everyday has a substance abuse problem

10 Forget the stereotypes Look in the mirror They are people just like you and me

11 Substance abuse costs Durham County over a quarter billion dollars a year

12 Lost productivity Increased crime, court and prison costs Increased strain on healthcare facilities

13 Not to mention ruined lives and broken families

14 Addiction to alcohol or drugs is not a moral failing

15 It is not the result of a person’s lack of will power to quit

16 Addiction to alcohol or drugs is a chronic disease like diabetes, hypertension or asthma

17 People choose to start drinking alcohol or taking drugs, but no one chooses to become addicted

19 Treatment works Remission from addiction is possible Lives and families can be restored Substance Abuse can be Prevented
