1 28.1 Levels of Organization
Set up Cornell Notes on pg. 41 Topic: 28.1 Levels of Organization Essential Question(s): Create a Flow Map sequencing the five levels of organization. Please add a colored picture for each. (p. 856) This EQ can go on the bottom half of pg 40. If you do not have room, tape a page in. 28.1 Levels of Organization 2.1 Atoms, Ions, and Molecules KEY CONCEPT The human body has five levels of organization.

2 KEY CONCEPT The human body has five levels of organization.

3 Main Idea Specialized cells function together in tissues, organs, organ systems, and the whole organism. Scientists have organized multicellular structures into five levels based on complexity

4 1) Cells: Organisms are made up of specialized cells that each have a particular structure that enables it to perform a specific task Exs: Red blood cell- delivers oxygen to all tissues Nerve cell- provides a pathway for electrochemical nerve impulses

5 2. Tissues are groups of similar cells working together to perform a specialized function

6 3. Organs are different types of tissues working together to perform a function
Exs: Lungs Heart Stomach

7 4. Organ systems: two or more organs working together to perform a function
Perform the most complex activities in the body Ex: Respiratory system- lungs, sinuses, nasal passage, pharynx, larynx

8 There are 11 major organ systems in the human body (p. 856)

9 Organism: The organ systems make up the entire organism
Organism: The organ systems make up the entire organism. For the organism to stay alive, all of the systems must interact and work together.
