8 Conflict: What is it?  Man vs. man  One character against another  e.g. When Parris and Proctor have a verbal fight.  Man vs. self  When a character struggles with something internally  e.g. Jesse can’t decide if he should follow Abel to the army at the end; it’s his internal struggle.  Man vs. nature  When a character has to endure natural disasters or hardship (and it usually reveals the strength of the character)  In Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy has to survive on his own in the woods despite the mountain lions roaming around.  Man vs. society  When one or two characters struggle against a societal norm  Rosa Parks: she struggles against the norm of segregation
