6 Introduction NEMMP 2020 – In 2011, the GoI approved the NMEM and the setting up of a high level apex structure in the form of the NCEM and the NBEM for faster adoption of electric vehicles (including hybrids) and their manufacture in India. – India thus set a target to produce six million green vehicles by 2020. At present, there are only about 1,500 electric four-wheelers and about four lakh electric two-wheelers. 6IMT Group 03 Section E

8 Problem Identification Management Dilemma – To decide whether to enter the electric car segment or not. – If yes, then it will have to decide on & develop a range of eco friendly cars. 10 Objective of the Study Research Objectives: – 1.To assess whether there is an opportunity for a new environment friendly car brand to be launched in the Indian market by MSIL. – 2. If yes, to determine the best car concept in terms of features and consumer appeal. The questionnaire will be designed to elicit the following : – 1. Use information : of transport mediums, of 4 wheelers and of current and past vehicles used. – 2. What factors influence a person's purchase decision while buying a car? – 3. Evaluation of current car in use. – 4. How brand loyal are the customers to their existing car. – 5. Are the Indian customers aware of alternative fuel based vehicles? – 6. What are the factors that would convince consumers to switch to an electric car? – 7. Will the Indian market adopt the concept of electric vehicles? – 8. Demographic/ Classificatory information : Age, occupation, education. IMT Group 03 Section E10

11 Scope of the Study The decision to roll out a hybrid electric vehicle depends on several factors – Advancements in technology – Research and development budgets – Government policies etc. – Necessary infrastructure : recharging/refuelling This research is however restricted only to the assess the consumer requirements, expectations, adoptability with respect to electric vehicles.
