Preparation for urban areas ongoing As of July 2007, WSTF has financed a total of 107 projects at a total cost of Ksh 888 million. 2 Water Services Trust Fund Arrangement for pro-poor rural and urban investments WSTF WSP / Community Water Services Boards Big Investments realized directly by WSBs CPC Community Project Cycle: - point sources - small systems Funds: € 20 Mio SIDA, DANIDA rural UPC URBAN POOR CONCEPT: - Water kiosks - Basic sanitation (public & private) Funds: € KfW 5,5 Mio; EU 10,375 Mio (Cofinanced by KfW and GTZ) urban - Capacity Building - Monitoring and Evaluation through Pool of Consultants, NGOs Financing Contract € Implementing body

3 Water Services Trust Fund Characteristics of Urban Poor Concept + Use of formal and professional institutions = Water Service Providers + WSPs under increasing regulatory framework: Regulated prices, quality, incentives and fulfillment of human rights  SUSTAINABILITY and HUMAN RIGHTS + Implementation mechanism: Nationwide call for proposals + all WSP submit proposals and compete; best proposals evaluated with range of criteria  AID-EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY (Paris Declaration) + Development of national concepts and standards that are binding for all Donors and NGOs in line with National Strategies  ALIGNMENT + Use of appropiate technology and clear poverty-orientation  FAST-TRACKING OF ACCESS AND UPSCALING

4 Reaching the urban poor Preparation of large-scale implementation tools through pilot projects with GTZ: Pilot Water Service Providers: Naivasha WSSC, Oloolaiser WSC, Mavoko EPZA Results: - Total No. Of Water Kiosks: 16 - Estim. Beneficiaries (additional access to safe water): 17119 - Budget: 7 Mio KES – 77,000 Euro + using WSTF concept: Nzoia WSC with 6 Kiosks and 6000 beneficiaries - 2 Pilot public sanitation facilities in Naivasha (1) and Oloolaiser (1) - Community mobilization - Formation project task teams (with key-stakeholders, leaded by WSP)

5 Reaching the urban poor -Data collection tools developed -Project Application forms developed -Financing contracts developed and signed -Capacity Building at WSPs: Formation of peri-urban units, Management system etc.
