2 Sponsored by the National Science Foundation 2 17 March 2010 Background Over the last several weeks a discussion on different approaches to stitching has taken place on the control-wg list. This talk is intended to summarize the key points of that discussion.

3 Sponsored by the National Science Foundation 3 17 March 2010 computer switch AM computer switch AM switch AM What is stitching? Stitching refers the mechanism for establishing linkages among slivers or other entities created by different AMs –The near term emphasis is on Ethernet carriage, i.e., VLANS and tunnels that can carry Ethernet frames –Will want to extend this to other layers Pre-established VLANs or tunnels

4 Sponsored by the National Science Foundation 4 17 March 2010 Aaron’s Proposal computer switch AM switch AM Pre-established VLANs or tunnels Stitching Service (probably in the Clearinghouse) Client software 1. credentials & slice spec 3. Selected VLAN ID 4. Selected VLAN ID 5. Ready 2. Assign VLAN Repeat for each stitched connection…

Stitch parameters (signed) 4. Ready 1. Request stitch Repeat for each stitched connection… Slice Manager (optional)

Protocol for negotiating VLAN selection Repeat for each stitched connection… 2. credentials & Rspec Client software Slice Embedding Service (optional)
