1 Welcome! Collegiate Academy at Lennard HS

2 Earn a college degree from HCC Students earn a A.A. degree from HCC/South Shore while earning a high school diploma. Students take courses on the Lennard campus freshman year and then take courses at HCC/South Shore during sophomore, junior and senior years. Program Requirements Complete Algebra I by end of 8 th grade with an A, B or C High standardized test scores on FSA/FCAT. Apply during application period November 3 rd to December 15th online at www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/departments/95/hillsborough-choice- options/about/

3 Benefits An earned A.A. in liberal arts from Hillsborough Community College (HCC) Degree or most credits transfer to most colleges and universities. Tuition and textbooks at no cost to students and families. Facilitates admission to competitive four-year colleges and universities.

4 Points of Pride Currently we have 259 students in the Collegiate Academy at Lennard. Largest CA in the district. Courses offered at HCC SouthShore and Lennard HS. On track to graduate our first A.A. candidates in the spring of 2017.

5 Requirements to remain in the program Must maintain a 3.0 un-weighted HS GPA and a 2.0 HCC GPA throughout the program. P.E.R.T. scores of 106 reading, 103 writing and 114 (123) math. SAT scores of 440 Verbal/440 math or ACT scores 19 reading,17 English and 17 math. Students must earn a 106 in reading and 103 in writing by the end of their freshman year to remain in the program. Students must earn a 114 math score by the end of sophomore year to remain in the program.

6 College Skills 1. Read for comprehension. Vocab/build on prior knowledge/re-read/take notes. 2. Note taking skills. Short-hand, important info, id material that is repeated or identified as important by instructor. 3. Writing Skills. Thesis, sources, outline, 1 st draft, proof read, final product. 4. Study skills. Rewrite notes, study cards, over time, do not cram. 5. Research skills. Web search/reputable site/digital library. Media center.

7 Study practices 1. Time management. 2. How much work? 3. Take notes. 4. Read everything 5.Find place to study/study group 6. Create a routine. 7. Study for exam/start major assignments 2 weeks in advance.

8 Q/A Required PERT Scores? Writing 103, Reading 106 and Math 114. When do we go across the street? Sophomore year during 7 th and 8 th period. Students take 3 HCC course per semester. Is this program being discontinued? No. All students in the classes of 2016-2019 will be able to earn their A.A. degree. Does a dual Enrollment class count for a high school graduation? Yes. Most classes will take the place of a requirement or elective. Do all schools (Florida and outside of Florida) accept the AA from HCC? Yes. Florida state universities are required to accept all college courses from HCC. All Florida public college/universities use a statewide course numbering system. HCC is SACS accredited, so all regional accredited colleges may choose to accept credits.
