3. In 2004 the Age reported about a Mrs. Bell who had come to live in Greensborough in 1943 with her one year old son.

4. The house they moved into dated back to the 1840’s. They planted their own fruit and vegies, caught fish from the Plenty River and shot wild rabbits. They had no electricity or piped water. They pumped water from the river and drank it! (I wouldn’t, would you?) They had a wood stove and gas lamps. Mrs. Bell baked her own bead until 1994.

5. She told a story about one night when she went down to the kitchen and saw a little girl and as she walked closer she faded away.(The ghost aaaaah!)

6. She also said she saw a man leading two boys by the hand up the steps from the river! She didn’t feel scared in either of these encounters.

7. I found out that the ghosts Mrs. Bell had seen may of drowned in the Plenty river over 129 years ago. I have copies of newspaper articles about boys drowning while bathing in the Plenty River. (I hope the water was cleaner than it is now). I found all of this info at Banyule ghost stories: Wiki Northia – documentary life in Melbourne’s North. I also e-mailed the Greensborough Historical Society and got some information.
