3 Bullying Physical Verbal Social Repeated behavior that makes it hard for a student to learn is bullying. Any insults that are sexual is sexual harassment

4 What to do if you think a friend is in danger….. Tell an adult immediately! Do not delete texts, messages, posts or voicemail. Do not let your friend be alone. Get support from an adult for YOU!

5 GPA UNDERSTANDING SOME KEY POINTS Accumulative GPA v. GPA Adjusts as credit is earned Semester credit and semester finals Quality points 5.00 credits to be 10 th grade, need 10 credits to be 11 th grade

6 Athletic Eligibility You must be passing 5 classes not counting PE to be eligible to play a sport. It is your responsibility to make sure you have enough classes.

7 Ask for help Math Lab periods 4,5,6,7,8,9,11 Writing Lab periods 4,5,6,7,8,9 and after school. They can help you with any writing assignment.

9 Lorain County Joint Vocational School 25 point system, attendance is huge, academic GPA, course sequence (are you on track?) WE DON’T DECIDE WHO GETS IN AT THE JVS You are competing against all Lorain County High Schools, except Lorain The JVS representative will be here November 19 & 20 January 27 is the field trip for sophomores who want to visit. There is a limited number of space – field trip permission forms must be in by December 11 Application is online and will be available in January

10 College Readiness Night NRHS Guidance Department Partners with The Ohio State University, LCCC and Tri-c to help you with the college process College Readiness Night January 12, 2016 – 6 pm at the high school – Parents should attend with you – What you need to be doing now to be ready for college and a successful life after NRHS AP Classes College Credit Plus

11 Practice ACT December 3 during the school day Open to all Juniors and Sophomores Determines what college and how much college will cost Sign up in Guidance Office $17 Only 80 seats available

12 ASVAB November 24 during the school day Free academic and career assessment Helps prepare you for ACT/SAT Helps you make career choices Only 50 seats available Given by the military, but does not commit you to the military.

13 College Awareness Field Trips You cannot miss more than two days of school to attend one. They are at different times of the year. Sign up is first come, first serve FREE

14 Job Shadow Use forms online for general information Volunteering at local hospitals, library, schools, Camp Cheerful, YMCA, Metro Parks, Parks and Rec Cleveland Clinic Internship NASA internship NEONI List in guidance of places where you can volunteer

15 Final Notes Transcripts Come to guidance if you have any questions – Someone is in need or harms way – You need to talk, vent, or just need a moment – You do not have enough credits to become a junior: 10 credits or you have a problem with your schedule (already took a class & passed it) – Your personal information is not correct – You need username/password for Powerschool
