2 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 2 Meet with the client to create a project plan: Determine the purpose of the animation - What is the reason for creating the animation Define a target audience for the project - The group to which the animation is directed Set the overall goals of the animation - The intended or desired result; the outcome and deliverables Pre-Production

3 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 3 Meet with the client to create a project plan: Agree on deadlines for phases of the project - The dates that parts of the animation are due Create a budget for the project - The amount of money available to complete the animation Set a color scheme and set of typography based on client’s current marketing and branding materials - The client’s specific company colors and fonts that are to be used Pre-Production

4 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 4 Choose the appropriate software: Adobe® Flash The industry standard 2D animation software that is used to create games, advertisements, websites and more Maxon® Cinema 4D Studio / Autodesk® Maya The industry standard 3D animation software that create three-dimensional models and animate them in a virtual environment Adobe® Edge Animate An HTML-based 2D animation software that specializes in creating animations for the internet using HTML5 code Pre-Production

5 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 5 Gather and manage information and digital assets provided by the client Converting files -Make sure files are in the proper format in order to access and edit them in the software File-naming convention - Come up with a consistent way to name all files to assure proper organization File organization - Organize all files in appropriate folders for easy and quick access Pre-Production

6 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 6 Storyboarding – Graphic organizers such as a series of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence, including website interactivity Visual representation - Sketch out each major scene or phase of the animation Movement/transitions - Provide the client with detailed information describing what’s happening in each scene and the transitions in between Other storyboard components - Note other parts of the animation such as audio, interactive buttons, etc. Storyboard

7 © ExplorNet’s Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning 7 Stop Motion – A cinematographic technique whereby the camera is repeatedly stopped and started, for example to give animated figures the impression of movement Scene - Create a scene and/or backgrounds with which the figurines or graphics can interact Figurines/graphics - Make the figurines and/or graphics to be used in the animation Lighting/camera setup - Light the scene and set up the camera on a tripod to capture each frame Stop Motion Animation Preparation
