Communion

1 Corinthians 11:23 through 1 Corinthians 11:29 (KJV) 23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord’s death till he come. 27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

The same night Jesus was betrayed, He took bread We remember His betrayal We remember the events that led to His crucifixion

This is my body… Jesus broke bread We remember His broken body Isaiah 53:5 (KJV) 5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

This is my blood… Jesus took the cup We remember His shed blood Colossians 1:14 (KJV) 14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

As often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup… We show the Lord’s death till He comes It signifies our belief in God and His return Corinthians 15:51-52 (KJV) 51Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Be respectful Unworthily: disprespectfully Not discerning: not understanding the importance of Jesus sacrifice

Who should receive Communion? Those with a desire to remember Christ’s death. Those who understand the importance of Christ’s sacrifice: the believer.
