3 Our Context - IMD 2010 Manchester is the 4 th most deprived local authority in England Our catchment has 4 wards in the top 1% of deprivation nationally Collyhurst has the highest level of child poverty in Manchester and 2 nd nationally Harpurhey has the 7th th lowest income levels in England Harpurhey has highest level of unemployment in Manchester and is 42 nd nationally Collyhurst has the highest level of poor health and disability in Manchester and is ranked 5 th nationally. The AAACM rate in Harpurhey is almost twice the England average Life expectancy is 10 years below the national average Collyhurst has the highest ranking in the crime domain in Manchester and is 5 th in England 49% of the working population have no qualifications 43% of children live in workless households 41% of the working population are economically inactive

8 Progress to Date – Policy into Practice An understanding of the complex community and economic contexts in which we operate An innovative curriculum which promotes students’ thinking, future employability and independent learning A strong CSR agenda that commits us to long term sustainable growth and investment in local people An adult learning provision attracting over 200 learners from the local community An extensive after school and holiday programme with over 1700 local users per week A wide range of partnerships enhancing the learning opportunities for students and adults in the community An inclusive procedure for involving parents in the pastoral and learning needs of students A School Centre for Initial Teacher Training Centre to ensure that new recruits teachers have a wider understanding of the barriers to learning in disdavantaged areas
