3 Buying a New Car  Each new car has a base price charged for standard equipment. Any extras that the customer wants to add to the car – such as a CD player, air conditioning, or floor mats – increase this price. These extra items are called options.  Notice the base price, the costs of various options, and the fee for transportation and handling.
