1 Food Webs, Food Chains and Trophic Levels
SNC1D1 – RHSA

2 A food web shows the many complex feeding relationships in an ecosystem.
A food chain is one path through a food web. Name the producers. Name four consumers.

3 Food chains start with a producer and end with a consumer.
Healthy food webs have many food chains.

4 What are two food chains in this food web?
grass  snail  bird  eagle grass  caterpillar  lizard

5 Food chains use arrows to show energy flow.
Producers are photosynthetic and produce glucose using energy from the Sun. Consumers must get their energy by eating producers or other consumers.

6 After the producer a food chain can have one, two, three or more levels of consumers called primary consumers, secondary consumers and tertiary consumers.

7 The producer is the first energy level or first trophic level
The producer is the first energy level or first trophic level. The primary consumer is the second trophic level. The secondary consumer is the third energy level and so on.
